Amegafuru
雨が降る (amegafuru) or “it will rain” when translated to English, is my senior collection of outerwear garments inspired by Japanese design elements. Taking inspiration from modern architecture, classic design silhouettes, and prestigious Japanese brands, I wanted to highlight 3 important design details that are carried throughout the collection. These design details are asymmetry, fit, and functionality. Asymmetry is something seen not only in Japanese fashion, but in all Japanese artforms. All garments are meant to fit slightly looser while remaining slightly cropped on the body. Lastly, since these are outerwear garments, they need to perform in different types of conditions which is why each material was meticulously selected in order to follow that rule.
All accessories (bags) were made with excess fabric ensuring no textile waste was created from this collection.
Amegafuru was shown at the Oregon State University College of Business 2024 Fashion Show & Design Exhibition, "Ethereal." The collection was judged by 6 different industry professionals and was voted to receive an award for the "most cohesive collection."
